CANNABIS MEETS HEALTHCARE

by Eric Vengroff, Financial Analyst

As someone who attended York Mills Collegiate Institute in the 1970’s, it should suffice to say that I’ve had a deep appreciation for the entertainment and recreational value of cannabis for many years.  The unmistakable perfume of Mexican whatever wafted through the halls and stairwells regularly.  So admittedly, I have historically been a skeptic when it comes to the medicinal use of cannabis.  However, after attending numerous seminars, speaking with dozens of patients and medical professionals, meeting with product developers and industry mavens who possess much deeper knowledge of the pain relieving, symptom fighting, curative and healing power and potential cannabis, CBD, and various derivatives, my eyes have been opened, and I’m a skeptic no more.

As the recreational cannabis industry expands in certain U.S. states, and Canada, some have postulated the end of the medical space, as those that find medicinal benefit will get it, through products available in the recreational market,  This may be an oversimplification of both their argument and the outcome, especially as some of the long-deferred academic research into cannabis starts to report on their findings and gain traction in the academic community.  Even without formal academic research, anecdotal and empirical evidence continues to mount in examples such as opioid addiction clinics switching or augmenting opioid users’ consumption of opioids with cannabis and showing reduction or outright elimination of opioid use.  There is a lot of work to do.

This brings us to the one-day forum ‘Cannabis Meets Healthcare’, specifically designed for the medical community at this year’s O’Cannabiz Conference & Expo at Parq Vancouver Casino and Resort, taking place this coming Sunday, December 9, 2018.

This is exclusive ticketed event, not open to the general public, is aimed at professionals looking to expand their knowledge regarding the medical application of cannabis in the current environment.  There will also be ample opportunity to network with other healthcare experts and professionals at breakfast, lunch and cocktail reception.
