Cannabis and CBD – Is There A Difference?

The popular naturally occurring plant know to us as Cannabis has a whole bunch of other names. Some include Bhang, Pollen, Puff, Pot, Weed, Skunk, Sensi, Marijuana, and Grass…and there are others too. This has become a fascinating and exciting topic over the past couple of years, especially due to it becoming legal in several countries, about 24 to be exact and in the United States, about 33 states have legalized it. Understandably, people have become very excited about this fact. It has opened doors to numerous possibilities. A list of these countries can be found here.

However, before you start seeing stars, not everyone can use it as is and when they want to, the only reason why it was made legal in the first place was for medicinal purposes. A lot of researchers have been very keen to put this magical product under a microscope to see what all the hype is about and have found that it does have some health benefits.

The overall consensus of some authorities is that this is Schedule I drug and because of this, the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) has legalized it for use with only two particular treatments, towards a rare and severe form of two types of Epilepsy, namely Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, this has not stopped many establishments for looking into it to see what else it can do for us.

Here is a FAQ that you can read about medical weeds benefits https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/medical-marijuana-faq. Some positive results have been shown in other cases such as Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Anorexia, Pain and Nausea, Epilepsy, and mental health issues too.

What’s Inside this Magnificent Plant?

The plant, marijuana contains some amazing elements in it. For those who are familiar with the plant but don’t know what’s on the inside, keep reading. The amazing thing about this fascinating component that has everyone in a twist, some sources state that it contains more than 400 different naturally occurring chemicals in it.

The active agent is Cannabis. Every one of these chemicals does something different from the body. Not only in humans but also our four-legged companions; both dogs and cats. Out of all of these, the ones used for the medicinal purpose are the cannabidiol (CBD) and the Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), this latter one is responsible for producing the ‘high’ that people get when they smoke it.

When taken apart, other various components that have been found in it are amino acids, flavonoids, vitamins, simple alcohols, hydrocarbons, ketones, simple acids, enzymes, aldehydes, sugars, esters, lactones, terpenes, pigments, proteins and also some glycol-proteins. If you ask me, this is quite the combination of substances for one simple plant.

Are Cannabis and CBD The Same Thing?

Brands with high THC, are usually set aside for research and recreational use. There are different strains of it too: Sativas, Indicas, and Hybrids. One gives you energy, the other helps you relax and the third is a combination of the two. You can visit similar sites such as High THC weed to know more about this.

As mentioned earlier, Cannabis is a chemical component in the majority of the weed we find growing in different countries. This is used for medicinal purposes and does not have any psychotic effects i.e. does not alter your mind in any way or make you feel high. What comes out of it is CBD, which has now been used world-wide, and various companies have already done this by adding it to tons of ‘superfoods’, toiletries such as creams, shampoos, oils, tinctures, and soaps for example.

They have even gone ahead and created a choice of products made for our pets where the THC is none-existent, understandably. And it is only the CBD that is used. Even though some people may find it entertaining to get our pets high, it is animal abuse and should never be done. Products that we find on the shelves should have minimal to no THC.

It is safe to say, both CBD and cannabis are one in the same thing, and Cannabis is the ‘genus’ holistic term for weed, or hemp, or marijuana. It may sound slightly complicated but that’s due to the various varieties of it and the levels of THC within each one.

The safest thing to keep in mind amongst all this information is to make sure you don’t over-do it and buying a product from a reputable source is far better than getting your hands on something cheap, just because it was easier.
